What customers want to know beforehand.
How do I take a usable passport photo at home?
A phone camera is more than enough — what matters is light, background and posture, and you get concrete hints while uploading. Best: stand by a window in daylight, a light, smooth wall behind you, about a metre away, and let someone else press the shutter.
A selfie at arm’s length does not work — the perspective distorts the face, and the authorities notice.
Who actually looks at my photo?
At first nobody: the instant check runs in your browser, the picture stays on your device. It is only transmitted when you order — and then exactly the people who process it see it: the photographer who checks and crops, and the office that prints and posts.
Your picture is passed on to nobody, and it is deleted automatically 90 days after delivery.
How quickly do I get my passport photo?
Orders placed by 4 pm go out the same evening by A-Mail — with you the next day. The digital file arrives the same day, so for online applications you do not have to wait for the post.
There is no express option — it does not get faster than this.
And if my photo is not usable?
Then we do not print it. You get a message with the reason in plain words and a button to upload a new picture straight away — the order stays the same, you pay nothing again.
If that does not work either, we refund the full amount. You never lose your money.
Which countries and documents does this cover?
Format, head height and special rules are stored for 76 countries — Swiss passport and ID card of course, plus the EU states, USA, Canada, India, China and many more. Pick country and document type in the first step and you immediately see which standard applies.
For visas, where no separate visa standard exists, the country’s passport standard applies — the format is almost always identical.
How can I pay?
TWINT, Visa, Mastercard as well as PostFinance Card and E-Finance. Payment runs via the secure PostFinance page — we never see your card details.
What happens to my photo?
The first check runs in your browser — the picture does not leave your device at all. Only when you order is it transmitted, and it then sits protected on our Swiss server, not publicly accessible.
We automatically delete your uploaded photos 90 days after delivery. Until then you can download the digital file again at any time. Your picture is passed on to nobody.
Children and babies — is that possible too?
Yes. Milder rules apply to small children: the mouth may be slightly open and the gaze need not point exactly into the camera. Best lay a baby on a white cloth and photograph from above — without shadows and without hands in the picture.
Glasses, head covering, make-up?
Glasses are allowed as long as the eyes are clearly visible and nothing reflects — if in doubt, take them off. Head coverings are only permitted for religious reasons, and even then the face must stay clear from forehead to chin. Make-up is no problem as long as it does not change your features.
Und: you do not smile on a passport photo. A slight, closed-mouth smile is fine — no teeth.
